Hajdari calls on Basha: Let’s change electoral system

TIRANA, May 26 /ATA/-The Co-Chair of the Special Commission for Electoral Reform and the representative of the Parliamentary opposition Rudina Hajdari stood against the compromise of the ruling majority and the non-Parliamentary opposition for the 3 points agreed today by the big parties and asked for the support of the Democratic Party (DP) leader Lulzim Basha to change the electoral system.

After the meeting of the Political Council, Hajdari said that the Socialist Party (SP) and DP have agreed on mixed funding of election campaigns, demanding a double increase of the budget from the government, but according to her, this money will be from Albanian taxpayers.

Hajdari said that, “Today, we proposed the law on referendums. I think that the law on referendums is a law that would give power to the Albanian citizen for more decision-making in major decisions. If we had a law on referendums, today we would not have a ruined theater, but a standing theater. I call on Lulzim Basha to support the proposal of the parliamentary opposition and not to make any more agreements with Edi Rama, because whenever they are close to one another, they bargain “.

Regarding the discussions at the table of the Political Council, Hajdari said that, “Today, it was agreed on some issues. It was agreed on a new election band from April 15 – May 15 and October 15 – November 15, while representatives of the parties express enthusiasm. For me, this was unacceptable, because if we change the electoral band, we close the door to the diaspora.”

“PS-PD have strongly agreed that the funding should be doubled. So, from the state budget. This money comes from Albanian taxpayers and the least they can do is give an explanation why they want to double this amount. Therefore, let’s stay away from these narrow ideas, bargains and interests and give Albanians a single thing, change the system, open list or at least give the citizens the opportunity to decide by referendum if they want change “, she said. /a.g//r.e/p.s./
