TIRANA, May 26 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ US ambassador in Tirana Yuri Kim has held on Tuesday a meeting with DP head, Lulzim Basha, which focused on Electoral Reform.
At a media briefing after the meeting, ambassador Yuri Kim said the meeting was very fruitful. Our discussion focused on the future and we highlighted the importance of Albanian leaders coming up to the expectations of the Albanian people such as their commitment to complete the electoral reform within May 31,”Kim said.
Ambassador Kim pointed out that this is not a deadline set by the US embassy or any other external factor. It has been set by the leaders themselves. By definition, the opposition has a tough job ahead. I feel encouraged by discussion that we had this afternoon and I am looking forward to the outcome,” ambassador Kim said.
For his part, Basha thanked ambassador Yuri Kim for the support towards Electoral Reform. Conduct of free and fair elections is the priority of DP, united opposition and entire Albanians. We are determined to do our best and guarantee all the Albanians the right to elect by means of free vote which is not under the influence of any criminal gangs and the money of corruption.
“We will make every effort to guarantee the political will to enforce the law, which is the main issue related to elections in Albania so that this political, constitutional and institutional crisis will be addressed through free and fair elections.”
