Pipero: Week-end restrictions necessary to ward off gatherings

TIRANA, May 23 /ATA/ – Pëllumb Pipero, the infectious diseases doctor at Mother Teresa University Hospital Centre in Tirana said that the week-end restrictions are necessary to ward off the gatherings of citizens.

While commenting on epidemic situation in the country, Pipero said that the COVID-19 curve in Albania is going down. He also highlighted the fact that the positive cases are asymptomatic, which is a good news.

“Figures show that the intensity of the epidemic is dropping, at least based on the number of positive cases, which are on steady decline despite the dynamics of the chart oscillating due to the application of our strategy that traces contact cases, contacts of contacts, yet the good news is that the cases are asymptomatic, ” Pipero said.

Pipero added that the epidemic is headed towards the end in our country.

“Weekends see more people come together and the uncertainty remains about the likelihood of the virus transmission. I believe the Committee of Experts consider it necessary to leave certain restrictions in place at weekend. The pandemic situation has stabilized and I am very optimistic that the end of May will be far more relaxed. I suggest the opening of public life at the end of May,” he said.

Pipero added that serological testing is well underway.

“At this stage, serological tests are being performed on healthcare professionals who have been more exposed to the positive cases as well as on positive patients to see the progress of antibody buildup in them,” Pipero said.
