Electoral reform, Basha: Trust breached, further steps in coming days

TIRANA, May 20/ ATA/- The Chairman of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha said that the opposition has shown the will for the Electoral Reform, but with what happened on May 17, the Socialist Party has breached the trust.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the protest of the “Alliance for the Protection of the Theater” held this afternoon, Basha stressed that the DP is ready for open lists and changing the electoral system.

Basha added that in the coming days, the opposition will outline further steps to give Albanians the freedom to vote and enable them to go to the polls.

“The DP and the opposition have had and have shown the will for the Electoral Reform. What happened on May 17 was that the SP breached the trust. We will be ready for open lists and changing the system into a pure majority system. We are also for limiting the mandates of the deputies, of the prime minister. But nothing will make sense, if this thieves government is at the top “, said Basha.

“Edi Rama has invested in stopping Albania’s European path; he has invested in stopping free and fair elections. He confirmed this on May 17 when he violated the rights of citizens. And that gives our 3-year battle a national and international appeal. In the coming days, the opposition will outline further steps to ensure that our goal of giving Albanians the freedom to vote is realized and to enable them to turn to the ballot boxes to oust an usurping government “, – said Basha.

“The opposition cannot be a façade,” he concluded./j.p/p.s./
