British Ambassador: Electoral reform should be finalized in line with OSCE/ODIHR priority recommendations

TIRANA, May 6 /ATA/ –  “We are looking forward to seeking the electoral reform finalized and address OSCE/ODIHR priority recommendations, the United Kingdom Ambassador to Albania, Duncan Norman, said on Wednesday.

In a media interview, the British Ambassador said: “We want to see finalization of the reform and its implementation in the next year’s general elections.”

British diplomat said that the Political Council on this reform has yet to accomplish its mission and has to resume its work.

“From my point of view, work is far from ending as long as this reform is not finalized. There is still room for the important role of political parties in all this, as the electoral reform requires cross-party cooperation in order to hold successful elections in Albania next year,” British Ambassador said.

Ambassador Norman said that time is a real problem because elections will be held and the process of enlargement with the EU will take place next year, which is of primary importance for Albania.

“We want to see Albanian political parties put Albania’s interests first and finalize this reform in order to hold successful and comprehensive elections next year as Albania takes the next step towards the EU,” he said.
