COVID-19/ Pipero: Second coronavirus wave to have smaller negative impact

TIRANA, May 5 /ATa/ – Infection diseases doctor Pëllumb Pipero on Tuesday evening said that  a second wave of coronavirus in autumn could be milder and is likely to have a smaller negative effects compared to the current initial wave of the infection.

The leading doctor at the University Hospital Centre in Tirana noted that if no vaccine is developed and made available anytime soon, then the severe coronavirus cases will be treated antibodies or the immunoglobulins that will be available.

Referring to the latest research conducted by the Utrecht University, Pipero said that if a second wave of the infection will spread next fall, it will have smaller effects.

“If no vaccine is developed, the pandemic could last two years. Yet, we should consider that a second wave will have a milder impact then the first one. A large part of the population will fall in contact with the infected individuals and they will develop the herd immunity,” he said.

“The information from the University of Utrecht on identification of the human antibodies is great news. It shows that our organism not only produces antibodies, but they are also effective in neutralizing the virus, which means that if not a vaccine will be developed soon, then we will the antibodies to treat the severe cases,” Pipero said.
