TIRANA, May 4/ATA/-The EU ambassador to Albania Luigi Soreca said today that the EU protection equipments for Albania are due to be brought today and added that the European Commission is expected to draft an economic plan for the Western Balkans.
During an interview on television, Soreca also focused on the Europe Week, an annual activity organized by the EU.
“This time it will be different as the activities will be through social networks. We target solidarity and the motto is “Stronger together”.
We plan to bring 18 artists from the EU and Albania, 14 countries, into the homes of the Albanians and the European citizens”, said Soreca.
Speaking about EU accession Soreca said that the pandemic has slowed down the pace, but the first inter-government conference remains an objective.
“We encourage the government to draw up a plan of action to meet all the conditions identified by the Council. After a month, the European Commission will issue its annual report on Albania. The objective is for us not to waste time, to reach the point where the first intergovernmental conference will be held”, -said Soreca.
Speaking about the measures taken by the government in context of the pandemics, Soreca said that they are in the same line as those in the EU.
“I have followed this issue closely. Not only in my capacity as a citizen living here, but also as an EU ambassador, I have been in constant contact with institutions, including local government. The measures taken are in line with the measures taken in EU member states, from the isolation to the need to fill a gap in the Criminal Code. I would like to congratulate all the Albanian authorities and institutions for the cooperation they have had during all this time, which has brought success “.
“The Commission reacted immediately as an institution, from the first month. A very important economic plan was unveiled. Italy has already entered the second phase. The EU’s goal is to help countries emerge from the economic crisis. The EU has also provided economic assistance to non-EU countries. The European Commission will unveil an investment plan, an economic plan for the Western Balkans, including Albania, ” said Soreca.
“Despite the macro plan, we don’t forget the details of everyday life. Today, it is expected to reach Tirana a large load with personal protective equipment, 110 thousand gloves, thousands of liters of hand sanitizer, thousands of masks. At the moment, that Albania will pass into the second phase, these protective measures are definitely needed so that there is no outbreak of pandemic “, – said Soreca./a.g/p.s./
