“Worst is over”/ Stringent measures should ease in line with curve of epidemic

TIRANA, April 13 /ATA/ – The drastic measures taken by the government to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus in Albania are in compliance with the curve showing slowdown in the spread of the infection and the worse is now over, said Pellumb Pipero, a leading infectious disease doctor.

“I think that the measures should ease in a proportional way with the curve of the epidemics. I think the curve indicates now a more gradual rate of infection and the measures are taken in compliance with the curve. In my judgement, taking such measures is of a double importance; first it gives a little breath to the country’s economy and, secondly, it also brings a positive psychological impact on the citizens. However, citizens should continue to rigorously respect the Ministry of Health guidance, respect social distancing, wear face masks and keep safe distance when shopping in markets,” Pipero said.

Renowned doctor said that “each country should implement respective measures depending on the progress of the epidemic and I am confident that the decision to relax the stringent measures comes at the right time and were necessary.”

Pipero informed that the situation at the Infectious Diseases Hospital was “relatively calm and a significant number of Covid-19 patients are recovering and being discharged from hospital.”

“What is noticeable is the fact that the number of patients who need to be hospitalized is relatively small. The condition of those hospitalized is more severe and suffer from underlying health conditions. What remains unchanged is the extraordinary committeemen and care of doctors and nurses for every patient,” he said, adding that four people are currently under intensive care and one is intubated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, whereas seven other patients are in intensive care at Covid 2 hospital.
