TIRANA, April 13 /ATA/ – The government will budget 4 billion lek, or $40 million to support around 100,000 workers in the small businesses generating minimum turnover due to the indirect impacts from the total lockdown because of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Monday evening that many complaints have been lodged with the tax administration by small business operators after their applications for a financial support under the first government’s economic package were turned down, leading to a misunderstanding that they were denied of the government help.
Indeed – the Premier went on saying – the majority of them were not entitled to benefit under the first support package, although the crisis impacts on their turnover and revenue was significant, “yet they were not included in the category of the affected businesses included in the first package.”
“I tried a lot to explain that these businesses will be included in the today’s extended support package and this is the case, and they are included in this package together with thousands of other businesses and individuals who didn’t apply for the first package, being fully aware that they were not entitled to benefit. In order to make a fair treatment of everyone, we will make available 4 billion lek, or 40 million dollars for this category to cope with the situation in the next 40 days until end of May,” Rama said.
According to the government head, every individual in this category of around 100,000 citizens will benefit a payment of 40,000 lek, or $400.
