Porto Romano, investments to increase port’s processing capacities

TIRANA, April 12 /ATA/ – The Albanian government approved several changes to the “BOT” concession contract on the port of Porto Romano, Durres, aimed at improving service delivery and increasing measures to prevent pollution during loading and unloading operations.

According to the bill that has arrived in parliament, the company “Porti MBM” has submitted a request to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy asking for changes to the concession contract, which provide for the creation of conditions by the contracting authority for the concessionaire to use the port’s capacities to the maximum.

The changes will not have any financial effects on the state budget, on the contrary the changes will increase the revenues in fee collections from the concessionaire company in the state budget.

The proposed changes are not intended to change the other essential terms of the concession contract.

The targets that are intended to be achieved through this draft law are to improve the provision of services by the concessionaire pursuant to the concession contract, to take measures to prevent marine pollution during loading and unloading operations of vessels, to ensure safe operation of vessels within the territory as well as increase revenues to be deposited in the state budget through the collection of the concession fees.
