TIRANA, April 4 /ATA/- The General Maritime Directorate, under the auspices of Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, organized the operation to return to Albania 35 Albanian sailors and 2 Kosovar sailors who had been stranded on the ferries and cruisers of GNV Company in Italy for 4 weeks in context of measures against COVID-19.
After a lot of efforts and with the help of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, it was achieved that 37 sailors boarded on Friday evening on the ferry GNV AZZURRA in Bari and departed for Albania.
In the Port of Durrës, there were taken all measures for medical control and their transport.
The Albanian Maritime Administration has been in contact with all Albanian sailors working on ships under foreign flags, assisting and advising them on the problems they have. From the contacts so far, most of them continue to work on ships transporting goods contributing to the movement of goods in these difficult days for the whole world. /r.e/p.s./
