Balla: Online consultations to conclude Electoral Reform

TIRANA, March 26 /ATA/- The head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, said in a televised interview that Albania was the first country to announce a major lockdown, with no identifiable patient zero, that’s why the other countries have experienced a very high COVID-19 death toll, in the first 17-18 days.

Concerning the government economic measures, the chairman of SP parliamentary group Taulant Balla said that, “we will call the parliamentary conference of the chairpersons to plan the work of the Parliament and to adopt the government normative acts. There are seven Normative acts issued by the government with regard to the measures against the novel coronavirus which have already come into force. The measures entered into force immediately but they also need to be approved by the Parliament in 45 days, ”he added.

“The economic package helps needy families with financial assistance. We have endorsed decision on payment of wages for the families who have been affected by the suspension of economic assistance but we will also enable the doubling of economic assistance to families which are currently part of the financial scheme. Some of the committees meetings have been conducted online. At the moment the European Council, 27 EU Prime Ministers and Presidents are holding a Summit to adopt decisions, ”Balla said.

Balla said that he hopes the first intergovernmental conference between Albania and the European Union will meet this year, following the EU Foreign Ministers decision to start the opening of accession talks, recalling that the primary condition for sitting at this table is the adoption of the electoral reform.

Head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Taulant Balla also encouraged the parliamentary and non-parliamentary opposition to conduct consultations online in order to conclude electoral reform.//a.i/
