Ambassador Zingraf: Albania takes next step towards EU

TIRANA, March 24/ATA/- The German Ambassador to Albania, Peter Zingraf, has welcomed the General Affairs Council’s agreement to start the accession negotiations with Albania.

“Today, the EU member states have agreed to start the accession negotiations with Albania. This shows that EU has appreciated the efforts made by Albania, especially in the judicial reform.

This decision is an important milestone for Albania towards EU membership. In the current coronavirus crisis, it is an important sign of optimism on the common path to the future. The EU will continue to stand alongside Albania and the region, and Germany will continue its commitment to remain a bilateral partner.

At the same time, the decision outlines the path to further reforms that Albania will have to take in the coming months, so that the first accession conference can be put back on the rails. We will continue to support Albania’s path to reforms,” Ambassador Zingraf said.//a.i/
