Coronavirus, impact on economy

TIRANA, March 11/ATA/-The Chairman of the Albanian Diaspora Business Chamber Ardian Lekaj said that, “All specialists say that this virus is no stronger than a flu and yet new restrictions are being imposed. That will certainly be felt in people’s pockets. After such an epidemic, unemployment, disease and so on will increase.

Speaking about the impact of coronavirus on the world economy, Lekaj said that, “Today, COVID-19 or coronavirus has become the topic of the day in every country in the world. Of course, it is too early to say how much the impact of coronavirus will be on the world economy, but let’s just take one example given by IATA (International Air Transport Association) which predicts a loss of 56 to 101 billion Euros for the flight sector alone. The number of bookings has dropped by 50-60%. It is unknown how long-haul airlines such as “Alitalia” or “Norwegian Air” will deal with this situation.

On the other hand, he said, China, which is currently the country most affected by this pandemic, economically stronger today than it was in 2003.

“All the new rules that will set against coronavirus will cause even more damage than the virus itself. Coronavirus is a biological problem, not an economic problem. No matter how much money they put into the market, it won’t help the situation. Markets need to understand that the economic situation created by the pandemic is not changed by printing money, this is a psychological process that will probably bring about a major crisis and cause a lot of losses,” said Lekaj.

We, as the Albanian Diaspora Chamber of Commerce, will strive to create a network of entrepreneurs around the world to manage the market demands that will surely arise, concluded Lekaj./p.s./
