TIRANA, February 13 /ATA/- The government’s reconstruction program following the devastating 26 November earthquake, urges the commercial banks in the country to reshape lending activity to a new level.
Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko said during a working meeting in Tirana on Wednesday with representatives of the Albanian Association of Banks that, “Under the circumstances of natural disaster, we should not only look for defeat, but also opportunities for recovery”.
“The government has already defined the areas where it will be rebuilt after the earthquake, and in addition to funds allocated from the state budget for this purpose, other funds are expected from the donor conference,” said Sejko.
The governor appealed to banks that in this environment of government and donors’ funding opportunities, but also of a high interest from individuals to invest in restructuring their properties and making them safer, the banks cannot remain passive, but must strengthen their role as intermediaries and take lending activity to a new level. /e.xh/p.s./
