TIRANA, Feb 10 /ATA/ – I. Vata/ Vice Minister of Interior Romina Kuko said on Tuesday that environmental safety will be high on the list of priorities of local officials, be them elected or appointed, who exercise their responsibilities and on the other hand who take on responsibilities and face consequences.
Kuko in her address to international scientific conference entitled “Environmental crime, environmental safety and national safety” said that one of the priorities is holding to account all stakeholders who fail to carry out their responsibility.
“Escalation of repressive measures against all suspects in environmental crime would advance this cause,” she said.
Kuko said that central and local structures which have been assigned specific duties need the support and cooperation of any central or local body which directly or indirectly deals with territory protection.
“In this regard the role of prefect is very important because it might serve as a key link in prompt execution of preventive measures in the sector of environment,” she said.
“However, our main goal is to sensitize entire society about protection of environment as an issue that resonates with the structures, the citizens and activists. Environment is our home. Nature is our home,” she said.
