TIRANA, December 27/ATA/- The High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) said today that the Special Anti-corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK) prosecutors deserve the support and confidence of all.
In a press release, KLP stated that, “It has followed the public reactions that have accompanied the establishment of the SPAK and election of its head. We tend to regard these reactions as indications of public opinion concerns that deserve our attention.”
KLP recalled that, “The process of selecting SPAK prosecutors took 9 months. At the end of that competitive and transparent process, we are convinced that we have done our best to guarantee the essential success of the SPAK by selecting the best prosecutors. ”
On the other hand, KLP adds, “In an effort to create the right atmosphere of trust in the new institution, we have done our utmost to involve the public and all institutional factors in the decision-making processes of the Special Prosecution Council.”
“We understand that the personal and professional background of SPAK prosecutors is important to their and the institution’s success. We also understand that the success of the SPAK will not be determined solely by its procedural and organizational advantages over its predecessor structures. The public image of the new institution and the confidence it has to arouse in the general public are also essential. ”
The KLP clarifies that the background of SPAK prosecutors has been thoroughly investigated on 4 levels.
“It has been verified whether they cooperated with the infamous former state security structures in the period 29.11.1944 to 02.07.1991; It has been verified that they have had inappropriate contacts with persons involved in organized crime during their period as prosecutors; It is verified that their property is legal; It has been verified that their professional abilities are appropriate for the exercise of the function of prosecutor”, emphasized KLP.
According to the KLP, “all prosecutors today serving in the SPAK have successfully passed the aforementioned verifications. They are certainly the most controlled and tested people in Albania. Moreover, passing these tests has been a prerequisite for participating in the competition organized by the Special Prosecutorial Council.
