TIRANA, December 19/ATA/- The Democratic Party (DP) in opposition welcomed the Special Anti-corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK) beginning of work and supports the independent functioning of this structure.
The DP writes in a statement that, “The immediate beginning of work and punishment of organized crime and corruption must be done professionally, impartially and firmly.”
The Democratic Party, which has adopted the law for establishment of the SPAK and the National Bureau of Investigation, is willing to give confidence and not prejudice any of the prosecutors within this structure, despite the decisions some of them have taken in the past.
“It is time for the prosecutors to meet the expectations of Albanian citizens and put an end to impunity for organized crime, promoters of criminals and corrupt officials. Albania has a new and real chance to combat organized crime and corruption at the highest levels, from government-backed criminals to politicians and senior officials,” is read in the PD statement.
The Democratic Party thanks the United States of America for the assistance it has provided so far in making SPAK operational and for its willingness to continue support the independent functioning of SPAK./p.s./
