Agri-processing, a potential sector for attraction of FDI

TIRANA, December 9 /ATA/- Agri-processing is one of the sectors with high potential for attracting foreign direct investments.

Albania’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Development Dhimo Kote told ATA that, “The agri-processing is regarded as one of the sectors that can serve as an open bid for domestic or foreign entrepreneurs who will invest in Albania”.

“Agri-processing is perceived as a sector where there are potentials for new investments such as: investing in the processing of fruits and vegetables for export and the domestic market (Made in Albania), or on processing of medicinal herbs”, – said Kote.

In recent years, he said, there has been an increase in the export of medicinal herbs, processed agricultural products, such as vegetables and fruits, and that can be further developed in the future as a good alternative to increase domestic production, revenues and expand employment.

The deputy minister explained that side by side with exploring potential sectors for investments, the government has also given new incentives and pursued policies to facilitate investment growth.

Thus, the lifting of VAT on agricultural inputs, the reduction of 6% of VAT on accommodation structures in agri-tourism or even the fuel scheme in agriculture, are support incentives of new investments. /e.xh/j.p/p.s./
