Earthquake/Houses are stable in general

TIRANA, November 27/ATA/- Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that just like in the previous earthquake, this earthquake that was stronger and longer has tested once again that the dwellings are generally very stable.

In today’s government meeting, regarding the situation created by the earthquake yesterday morning, PM Rama said that, “No one should be impressed by the wall cracks as not every wall cracking means a problem. Unless the wall column is touched, it represents nothing in terms of security. ”

“All the apartment blocks, even the tallest ones built after the 90s, in the vast majority have no retaining walls, they are not retained by the walls, they are maintained by structures of columns,” said PM Rama.

The head of government said that, “The houses are generally designed and built to withstand stronger earthquakes, more than 6 or 7. Despite the tremors and terrible earthquake sensation the real danger is far”.

“But, in Thumana we have seen a 5-storey apartment block collapsed precisely because of the absence of the structure or as a result of very abusive designs and constructions,” said PM Rama./k.s/p.s./
