TIRANA, November 22/ATA/- Italy will return to the issue of the opening of Albania and North Macedonia membership talks after stiff opposition to the move from France, the Italian Minister for European Affairs Vincenzo Amendola stated Thursday in a television interview.
Minister Amendola reiterated Rome’s intention to fix what he called “a mistake”.
Conte considered an historical mistake the decision of the European Council against opening of the EU accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia.
“A serious political mistake, as the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said at the end of the meeting, also a historical mistake. Because many of the countries seeking to participate in the accession process, but in particular Albania and North Macedonia, have done much in terms of reforming their institutional architectures,” Italian Minister for European Affairs Vincenzo Amendola said.
“However, we will soon face a new scenario. There is a new Commission expected to take office on December 1, so we will have to wait until March and work on what will be an important point to make a decision, ”he added.//a.i/
