TIRANA, November 20 /ATA/- The coastline of the city of Durrës and Taulantia Square is being transformed into a central park, offering more public spaces not only to the 175,000 inhabitants of the coastal city, but even to the tourists.
The Albanian Development Fund informed today that the works are underway at the “Taulantia” square in the main area of the city of Durrës.
The works have currently focused on realization of marine stone protection, along the concrete wall, soil excavation and laying, concrete scaling of the seafront, and dismantling of the existing pavement broken slabs.
While there is a significant number of tourists every year, the intervention in this area aims at further development of the city in terms of economy, tourism and social activities.
According to statistics at the Port of Durrës, one Sunday alone arrived 623 tourists from 28 countries around the world. The figures confirm that the city has become one of the destinations visited off-season, all year round.
The reconstruction of the Taulantia Square is being implemented by the Albanian Development Fund in the framework of the project “Priority Investments with Impact on Tourism Development and Promotion”.
The government funded project is expected to be completed next year, revitalizing not only the project area but also redefining the city’s relationship with the sea./a.gjonaj/ /a.g/p.s./
