TIRANA, November 18/ATA/-The objects discovered in marine waters near Durrës will soon be put together at the Archaeological Museum, which recently obtained the status of a National Museum.
Director of the Regional Directorate of National Culture Alban Ramohito gave the news to ATA.
According to him, groups of specialists at the Ministry of Culture are already working on designing scientific platforms which will support the setting up of Medieval Pavilions and Underwater Archeology area respectively on the second and third floor of the Durrës Museum building.
According to Ramohito, the most of the relics of vessels up to 2500 years old have been discovered by underwater archaeologists in the Gulf of Durrës.
The study concludes that antique cargo ships were mostly stranded while sailing in and out of Durrës wharf and harbor in antiquity and the Middle Ages, due to inclement weather or unknown underwater obstacles. At the Museum inaugurated in 2001, currently operates only the Antiquity Pavilion with about 2,700 objects discovered in Durrës and its surroundings.
Director Ramohito also said that the Museum will be the most important part of Durrës Museum Center, as stipulated by Law No. 27/2018 “On Cultural Heritage and Museums”. It is an institution with the status of “national museum”, depending on the ministry responsible for cultural heritage, based in the city of Durrës, which administers the National Museum of Archeology and Durrës Archaeological Park, whose limits are determined by decision of the Council of Ministers ”./k.s/ /a.g/p.s./
