TIRANA, Nov 7 /ATA/- German govt. through GIZ is supporting the adaptation and management of flood risk in the Western Balkans.
Improvement of early flood warning system in the basin of Drini river is at the centre of the project that aims to build an efficient system for flood risk warning system holding the key to mitigation of natural disasters.
The project introduces climate change forecast in the region with special focus on floods and droughts as two extreme weather events. It is being implemented in four regions; Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro given the fact that the impact of climate change in these countries is almost similar and that the rivers have no national borders, as their basins extend beyond the borders of a country. For example, the Drin and Buna river basins lie in five states: Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and a very small part of Greece.
