Tirana, Nov 4 /ATA/- A few months ago, a group of inhabitants from the municipality of Kruja took to Co-governance platform (Platforma e Bashkëqeverisjes shqiperiaqeduam.al) to ask for a Q&A session in parliament with Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, who was informed on their concern over the lack of drinking water supply. The minister promised her utmost commitment to remedy the situation.
Four months after her commitment, the work is well underway in Kruja to construct water supply network which will provide uninterrupted water supply to more than 17 thousand inhabitants.
Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, along with director general of National Agency for Water Supply, Sewers System and Waste Infrastructure, Alqi Bllako, inspected the kickoff of works on the ground.
Director Bllako said that this investment entails the construction of a depot with a capacity of 500 cubic meters as well as construction of a transmission network, 15.6 km at length.
“This is a vital project for the city of Kruja, which gives a final solution to the problem of water supply, a problem that has been inherent for over 30 years. A new fresh water spring called the Vaomira spring in the Scanderbeg Mountains, has been found and a new 15.6 kilometer long transmission line will be laid to guarantee 24-hour water supply for 8 months of the year, mainly during the rainy months, from November to June and supply of at least 16 hours a day for the dry season of the year, ” Bllako said.
For her part, minister Balluku appreciated the mobilization of the citizens to raise the concern on Co-Governance platform. Balluku went on saying that construction of water supply network in the municipality of Kruja was on agenda of investments however their request at the Q&A session has expedited the process.
“This case was referred through the co-governance platform. A group of Kruja residents demanded an intervention in water supply system which has been lacking in investments for several decades. We promised to start this investment by fall and we delivered on our promise. We hope to close the process before summer. We should deliver the investment on schedule because water supply is a basic service and it is unacceptable to see a town surrounded by fresh water springs lacking in tap water,” Balluku said.
