TIRANA, October 25/ATA/-Hungary is committed to providing its support for EU enlargement, which is in the interest of Europe and Hungary, the Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated Thursday after meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana.
Szijjártó said that the European Council and some Western European countries approach led to stagnation of accession talks, was “hypocritical and extremely harmful”.
Further enlargement of the European Union into the Western Balkans focuses on the strategic and economic interest of Hungary, Szijjártó said at a press conference.
Hungary still hopes to get the enlargement portfolio in the new EU Commission, Szijjártó said, “as this would be a way to guarantee the regeneration of the enlargement process.”
Speaking at a forum of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, OSCE Szijjártó opposed the EU’s decision to postpone EU enlargement as well the opening of membership talks with Albania and North Macedonia. //a.i/
