Greminger: OSCE can facilitate dialogue but not make political decisions

TIRANA, October 25/ATA/- There are three things the OSCE can basically do to provide its support for Albania’s electoral reform, the OSCE Secretary-General Thomas Greminger stated at a joint press conference with Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj.

“First, we can bring our technical expertise. Second, we can remind the Albanians, as well as the OSCE member states of their commitments to the electoral reform process. Third, OSCE can facilitate dialogue, create space for dialogue between the parties, but cannot make political decisions,” the OSCE Secretary-General Thomas Greminger said.

“We cannot make political decisions on the steps to be taken in the field of electoral reform,” Greminger said.

“We hope that the ODIHR recommendations are being taken seriously. We cannot choose the system that the country wants, but we can bring our expertise and knowledge to facilitate dialogue,” he said. //a.i/
