TIRANA, October 9/ATA/- The Breast Cancer Awareness Month is marked every October. The Pink October is the month of fight against breast cancer to raise awareness that the battle with this disease can be won.
The UN Albania has joined this awareness campaign.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Albania Brian J. Williams said yesterday during the awareness raising march in Tirana that breast cancer is becoming one of the most serious threats to the lives of women.
“During the past few years, the Albanian health system has made significant progress in improving its capacity to address the growing needs in this area as well as in improving the knowledge of women and their awareness of breast and cervical cancer”, said he.
“UN agencies have provided support and have worked in close partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Albania. Hundreds of primary care providers and specialists have been trained in early detection, diagnosis and treatment. More technology is available and approach to the disease has improved. More and more women are seeking breast and cervical cancer screening and the term seems not as stigmatized as before. The increased awareness of Albanian women for breast and cervical cancer increases the responsibility of the Albanian health system to provide good quality services to them at all levels of the system, said Williams.
According to him, “Ensuring a healthy life and promoting well-being for all ages is essential for sustainable development. I believe that Albania will make great progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals if we work together and keep the focus on everyone’s rights to enjoy healthy lives. “/gj.mima/ /j.p/p.s./
