TIRANA, Oct 1 /ATA/ October is the breast cancer awareness month all over the world with view to ensuring early detection of breast cancer.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.
Every year this campaign starts on October 1 and ends on October 31. The campaign is held to raise funding for scientific research as part of the efforts for discovery of the cause, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this cancer. Campaign offers information and support for women affected by breast cancer.
In 1993, the Cancer Research Foundation established the pink ribbon as a symbol of breast cancer, although this was not the first time this ribbon was used to symbolize breast cancer. Since then, the pink ribbon has become the international symbol of breast cancer awareness and support for those suffering from it.
Every October hundreds of thousands of products emblazoned with pink ribbon or colored pink are marketed to support the research or breast cancer awareness campaigns.
