Meta reacts on cancelling June 30 election date

TIRANA, September 17/ATA/-“The only exceed of procedural deadline in the President’s act is the one provided by the Electoral Code (three months), but that is entirely insignificant compared to the very principles of the Electoral Code, which is created not to accept or allow fictitious elections without opponents”, said President Ilir Meta in a reaction to the political situation before and after June 30th local elections.

Referring also to the OSCE election report, Meta said the monitors have praised the head of state’s effort to resolve the crisis.

“The statement of the OSCE / ODIHR on June 14, just four days after signing of the decree postponing June 30 as the day of local elections, shows that the President has consistently and persistently respected his constitutional position above the parties; he has made every effort to mitigate and overcome the crisis, to replace confrontation with inclusive dialogue,” said he. /p.s./
