TIRANA, August 13/ATA/- United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Albania, Brian Williams has called for the continuation of the justice reform describing it as one of most complex and important reforms the country is implementing by quickly establishing new institutions.
“I think that justice reform is the most successful reform implemented in Albania, it is comprehensive and based on my experience it is probably the most profound reform of its kind I have ever seen and it is important now to bear in mind the next steps ahead. The Constitutional Court and other structures should be set up as soon as possible and certainly the results will be apparent when all institutions will perform their assigned tasks and functions, investigations, courts etc. and this will let us know if reforms have been successfully implemented. An independent judiciary is the basis for good governance, and re-building a justice system so thoroughly is a major undertaking, and it could take decades to build such e system in many countries,” Williams said in an interview for RTSH.
He said that, “this effort is very profound. Prosecutors and judges have been investigated and it certainly has its costs, but building a valid independent and impartial justice system will be worth it for decades to come. ”//a.i/
