Albania to host OSCE Mediterranean Conference in October

TIRANA, July 27 /ATA/ – Albania will host the 2019 OSCE Mediterranean Conference by end of October, an event that will bring together representatives from the 57 member states and Mediterranean countries like Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

Representatives from a number of international organizations and Asian partners, like Afghanistan, Australia, Japan, Korea and Thailand are also invited to attend the Conference.

Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj said Saturday that the decision has been made by the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

“The decision affirms the OSCE member states’ support and confidence in Albania,” Cakaj said.

The OSCE Conference in Tirana reflects the priorities identified for the work of the Mediterranean Contact Group under the 2019 Albanian Chairmanship.

“The Conference will focus on the 25th anniversary of the Mediterranean Contact Group, achievements, challenges and future opportunities for the Partnership,” Cakaj said.

The Conference sessions will focus on joint efforts in countering terrorism, violent extremism and radicalization that leads to terrorism – good practices, challenges and the way forward, building bridges between the two shores of the Mediterranean, the role of connectivity, digitalization, sustainable development and economic growth in advancing common security in the Mediterranean.
