Xhafaj: U.S., EU, instrumental in implementing justice system reform

TIRANA, July 18 /ATA/ – Former chairman of an ad hoc parliamentary committee on the judicial reform and former Minister of Justice and Socialist Party lawmaker, Fatmir Xhafaj on Thursday expressed gratitude to Albania’s two strategic partners, the United States of America and the European Union.

One of the contributors to Albania’s justice system reform was OPDAT Resident Legal Advisor Jon Smibert who assisted the entire justice overhaul process.

“The direct and continued support from the U.S. and EU through OPDAT and Euralius has been and remains crucial to the fate of Justice Reform, a key guarantee for it,” Xhafaj said.

“U.S. and EU provided support to achieve best standards in drafting the Justice Reform, while they are now instrumental in its implementation with the establishment of new justice bodies institutions and tomorrow for their accountability and efficiency in providing equal justice to all and, above all, to put an end to the culture of impunity regarding high-level corruption,” Xhafaj underlined, adding “justice reform is on the right path and nobody can stop it.”
