No public space for 1000 residents in Golem beach

TIRANA, July 7/ATA/-The luxurious resorts and private entrepreneurships have occupied the public space in the beach being transformed into a concern for more than 1000 residents in Golem coastal area.

About 250 families who live in their own houses in “Golem” coastal area, near the FAFA resort in Robi Mount, Kavaja, have not any passage into the shore and no space of public beach. They find themselves in constant conflict with representatives of these entrepreneurships who day by day swallow meters of beach to the detriment of public space.

Following denouncement of the local residents, the journalist of the Albanian Telegraphic Agency monitored the situation from very close. The local residents also said they have complained in several municipal offices, but no one has heard them.

The ATA journalist noticed the irritation of the local residents.

They say that there is no public space for them in the beach although they have their own houses in the area.

“There is no public beach here. All is private beach. If a holiday-maker from Kavaja or someone who has his house in the area wants to stay in the beach, there is no place for him”, said another holiday-maker interviewed by the ATA.

Another gentleman reminded that the law stipulates the right of the residents. “According to the law, 30% of the area must be public property”.

« But, the law is not respected », added he.

Director of Tourism Department at Kavaja Municipality Gentian Jaupi accepted that the problem with public space created because of investments of several million Euros.

« There are resorts and businesses that bring significant revenues into the coffers of Kavaja Municipality, about 30 million Leks paid by these entrepreneurships”, said Jaupi.

He added that the Municipality in cooperation with the State Police has set up a working group to ensure the right of the holiday-makers to the public beach.

On his part, the representative of the FAFA resort Dritan Qato said that they respect the public space law and the contracts with the municipality. /p.s./
