TIRANA, July 4 /ATA/ – Genoveva Ruiz Calavera, chair of the International Monitoring Operation (IMO) in Albania and the Director for the Western Balkans at the European Commission, said in her remarks at the Western Balkans Summit in Poznan, Poland, that the ongoing justice system reform in Albania is on the right track and has brought about dramatic changes in the country.
According to her, the process should ensure that Albania has an independent justice system/
“We want to see the law being enforced and want to see corrupt individuals be sent to prison, the proceeds of crime be sequestered and we want to see sufficient evidence and facts, not only legislation, to demonstrate that the system is consolidated. I can only hope that in Albania, where the system is shaken, the politicians understand the value of respecting and supporting this reform,” she said at the Poznan summit in Poland.
Calavera emphasized that justice reform is moving on the right track.
“This would be essential: building a functioning rule of law and an independent judicial system. This is no longer a negotiable issue. I am very happy that this dramatic change has started in Albania,” Calavera said.
“Every Western Balkan country should find a way to reform the judiciary just like Albania is doing,” Calavera told Poznan Summit that has brought together foreign ministers of six Western Balkan countries and foreign ministers of EU member states that support Berlin Process.
