TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ – Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, stated on Thursday that the Council of Europe is in line with EU and US on June 30. As far as the lies of opposition are concerned, the truth will out.
In a press briefing, Cakaj touched on decision of a regional organization released yesterday which the opposition described as the stand of CoE on June 30 local elections, saying: The US, EU and OSCE but also CoE have recognized June 30 as the date for local elections. All they have said is that elections need to be peaceful.
Cakaj said it is an ill-intentioned effort by the side of opposition to deligitimize the election process.
“Yesterday’s release by the Congress of Regional Local Authority is not an official stand of the Council of Europe. Unlike the Committee of Ministers and Parliamentary Assembly, which are the statutory bodies of the Council of Europe, the Congress of Regional Local Authorities is an advisory body. However the Congress of Regional Local Authority has not issued any statement on denial of the right to hold elections on June 30,” Cakaj said.
