Austrian ambassador: People of democratic mentality don’t burn schools

TIRANA, June 20/ATA/ -The ambassador of Austria to Albania Johan Sattler has reacted to attacks against Commissions of the Electoral Administration Zones (CEAZ) in several municipalities run by the opposition.

Being a guest to the Academy of Youth Leadership in the Northern Albanian city of Shkodra, the ambassador said that, “The topic on which I want to speak today is “Albania at crossroads”. I think it fits to the period we are living under these critical moments and of situations repeated often during the last 28 years”.

“Your country has made substantial progress as compared with the other countries of the Balkans”, said he.

Further on, the ambassador said that, “In the democratic countries, elections resolve crisis. Here happens the vice versa. This is a paradox. The heads of political parties should come together. What happened in Shkodër, Bajram Curri and other cities is a real misfortune. People of democratic mentality don’t burn schools; they don’t destroy”, said he as several CEAZs are located at school premises.

The ambassador emphasized the need of a period of tranquility so that to build an electoral system in which the parties don’t boycott the elections and recognize their result. /gj.mima/ /a.g/p.s./
