Palmer: Kosovo, Serbia should continue dialogue until mutual recognition

PRISHTINA, June 12 /ATA/-By A. ALLA/ – The United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Matthew Palmer said Wednesday in Prishtina that it is important for the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia to continue and conclude in a mutual recognition.

Speaking at a ceremony marking 20th anniversary of NATO intervention in Kosovo, the US senior official said that the US support for Kosovo is a support for the country’s democracy objectives.

“The United States support for Kosovo adds support for efforts to achieve democracy objectives. We are not in favour of turning the clock back in terms of Kosovo’s independence. Kosovo has grown and is now mature enough to serve as an anchor of democracy,” Palmer said in his remarks.

He added that Prishtina and Belgrade should work together and leave behind nationalistic rhetoric.

“The United States has been in Kosovo for 20 years to encourage progress. Now it is the time for Kosovo to strengthen its efforts to achieve lasting peace by reaching a comprehensive and sustainable agreement with Serbia, concluding with mutual recognition. And this would put an end to all disputes in the future,” Palmer stated.
