June 30 election, a democratic process, opposition has capitulated to elections

TIRANA, June 7 /ATA/ – Holding elections without the main opposition would have been anti-democratic should the latter was to be denied and hindered from entering the elections, but if the opposition has decided not to participate in the process, it indeed has announced its capitulation ahead of the elections, then the elections are not anti-democratic ones, Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his speech at a mayoral polls campaign meeting in Ura Vajgurore on Friday.

“Just imagine how chaotic the democracy would become should the elections turn from a citizens’ right to judge politicians and political parties into the right of politicians to call elections when they want to do so. Imagine the chaos our democratic coexistence would plunge into if we were to heed the idea that since the main opposition refuses to participate in elections, then let’s postpone the electoral process and make way to the precedent of resigning from parliament and resorting to the Molotov bombs to oust through violence a government that has been legitimately elected by the people,” Rama stated.
