Student cards distribution set to begin next week

TIRANA, May 26 /ATA/ – The distribution of the recently created student cards is set to begin next week, another promise kept by the Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj under the government’s Pact on University.

During the inauguration of the house museum of Albania’s internationally renowned writer Ismail Kadare in Tirana, Mayor Veliaj said that students will also benefit reduced fees to visit museums in the Albanian capital.

“From today on, Kadare museum will open to public and, given that distribution of the student cards will start next week, students will benefit an 80 percent discount in ticket price. So it is almost for free,” Veliaj said, adding that different fee rates will be applied to tourists, while schoolchildren will visit museums for free.

Through the Student Card, students will benefit from reduced-price services not only for transport but other services too.

The Student Card includes reduced fee rates for theatre or cinema, gallery museum, health check, reimbursement drugs, health packages, social housing, stadium, sports hall or gym, banking or credit services, professional training programs and zero fee for libraries and multifunctional centers.

The downtown Tirana apartment where internationally renowned writer Ismail Kadare spent two of his most creative decades under communist oppression has turned into a house museum and a new tourist attraction in Albania’s capital city, featuring Kadare’s life under communism until 1990 when he fled Albania to seek political asylum in France, a country that later became his second home.
