Elections will not be postponed and opposition cannot impose its standard

TIRANA, May 16/ATA/-Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the local elections will be held on June 30 because this is the election date decreed according to the Constitution. Being a guest to the “Opinion” broadcast on television today evening, PM Rama said that the election date has not been chosen by the ruling majority, but by the president.

“It’s not me who has decided it and the government has not taken any legal initiative that hampers the opposition to enter into elections”, said PM Rama.

The prime minister said that the opposition and the government have their own views, but they cannot impose their stance: Go or no elections.

“These are free and fair elections. Everyone can enter elections or not”, said the prime minister.

Speaking about cases in the past when election date was postponed, the prime minister said that this time there were two possible dates.

“The president chose June 30 and not June 23. The Constitution is not mine, but belongs to the citizens”, said the prime minister./j.p/p.s./
