TIRANA, May 16/ATA/-The amendments to the Penal Code stipulate tougher penalties for persons that damage environment.
Minister of Tourism and Environment Blendi Klosi presented the amendments during a meeting with environmental experts at the venues of the Zoo in Tirana.
“This legal package is being introduced now. Thus, the Penal Code in its article 201 envisages imprisonment of 1 to 5 years imprisonment for all those who damage the protected areas. Those persons who cause irreversible damage to the eco-system and bio-diversity will be punished with 5 up to 15 years imprisonment. These sentences will be increased by 1/3 if the damaged territory is part of the protected areas”, said Klosi.
Attending the meeting were even top representatives of Italian Carabinieri for environmental control./j.p/p.s./
