Political game with accession process is like playing with the future

TIRANA, May 6 /ATA/ PM Edi Rama appealed to ambassadors of EU member countries, in his remarks, at the launch of application “My Embassy” to do everything in their capacity not to turn the game of negotiations into playing with fire, because this is not what Albanians deserve.

Rama said that the use of difficulties in opening of accession negotiations for reasons that are irrelevant to Albania should be set apart from political games wither inside our country or member countries, which can be done by taking the decision for opening of accession negotiations.

“I thank the EU ambassador and want to tell them that for us there is no other way. It is the only way and no matter how we feel about it before taking a leap in the dark because there is a problem somewhere, what we know for sure is that this is the only course and we will stay on course, but I am pleading with you to do everything in your capacity not to turn the game of negotiations into a play with fire. Albanians do not deserve it. It is up to foreign countries to put on the play of negotiations by opening them so no party will hold the public hostage and make use of difficulties for opening of negotiations,” he said.

Unfortunately, PM went on saying, not anyone and not always, has a deep understanding of the core of accession process, we see it as a process without parties, where nothing keeps us apart, where it makes no sense to include it in our daily political fights, rhetoric or natural disagreement. Political game with the process of accession is like playing with the future. Including the process of accession in the space between the trenches of political battle undermines the quality of the process but is also detrimental to the future,” Rama said.
