TIRANA, April 28 /ATA/- Hundreds of Orthodox Christians came together at the Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral on Saturday midnight to celebrate Easter, the Resurrection of Christ, the most important Christian festival.
The church service was presided by Archbishop Anastasios Yannoulatos, who announced by midnight Christ’s glorious resurrection and joined believers in prayer, respecting all the rites of celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
The large number of faithful who had thronged the church and the street outside the Orthodox Cathedral prayed for peace, benevolence, and harmony in their families. They lit candles to earn God’s blessing.
Easter is one of the most significant holy days and the one celebrated with the greatest joy by the Orthodox believers. The Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth three days after his crucifixion.
The Easter celebrations kicked off with the main Church mass on Saturday evening and will end with the traditional Easter Sunday lunch for family and friends. “Christ resurrected” is the “refrain” of this festive day which is expressed unanimously by all believers by the red Easter egg tapping, symbolizing the blood of Christ.
In his Easter greetings a day ago, the Archbishop Anastasios said that injustice, envy, corruption, and dark interests will be eventually defeated.
