Elections can neither be postponed nor stopped, opposition toward self-destruction

TIRANA, April 25/ATA/- “While the deadline for registration of the political parties in the elections of June 30 is passed, the opposition of the street has decided to leave even the elections in the same way it resigned from the Parliament”, said today at the Parliament Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Speaking in reaction to the decision of the opposition, PM Rama said that, “It chose two extreme forms in violation of the democratic logic, unprecedented, but confirmed as a way of self-destruction”.

“Where the opposition has chosen to abandon elections, it has got in return a long period of ruin and extraordinary difficulties for reconstruction”, said PM Rama.

Instead of the struggle of programmes and ideas, the opposition chose to fight with threats and projectiles, said PM Rama adding that, “They didn’t represent their electors in the Parliament, but have decided to bring them out of the way of the democratic battle and use them as cannon fodder while hiding behind them”.

“We have no other choice, but to continue our way and stick to holding the local elections on June 30 irrespective of the risks and threats of some parties or chairmen without party pledging to violate the right of the people to elections”, said PM Rama.

The prime minister emphasized that he understands all those who think that elections without these parties are not normal, but this is not our choice or our fault.

“We did our best so that such a thing didn’t happen”, said PM Rama./j.p/p.s./
