TIRANA, April 19 /ATA/ – Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj, during the meetings held in the city of Vlora said that Albanian govt. will reinstate the amnesty for convicts which, according to her, was hampered by the opposition MPs, who have boycotted parliament.
Minister Gjonaj said that the law on amnesty will be referred to parliament for discussion and will be voted thereafter.
“The amnesty was ready for govt. approval since November 2018 but the lack of the then opposition in parliament has hampered its approval. Amnesty law is necessary as long as no amnesty has been granted in more than one year and a half, but the lacking qualified majority in parliament was a major setback for us,” she said.
At the presentation of agreement on application of alternative, non-custodial measures for juveniles in conflict with the law, Gjonaj said the agreement includes a different form of treatment for juveniles in conflict with the law.
