Opposition stages rally outside prime minister’s office, burns symbolic dialogue table

TIRANA, Oct 24 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) staged a nationwide rally outside the prime minister’s office in Tirana on Saturday in support of students and young people who have protested in recent days.

DP members and supporters, including people who travelled from other cities across the country, gathered in response to party leader Sali Berisha’s call to back the student movement.

Some protesters set fire to the cushion seats placed outside the government building as a symbolic invitation by Prime Minister Edi Rama for dialogue with students.

Berisha said the rally showed the country’s full support for students and opposition to what he called a “narco-dictator” using “barbaric violence” against them.

Meanwhile, students have called a separate protest outside the Ministry of Education for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
