Shahini: Violations of suspended TU rector extensively documented

TIRANA, April 17 /ATA/ – Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, Besa Shahini, has made her case for suspension of Tirana University rector, Mynyr Koni, saying: his violations have been extensively documented after an inspection to Tirana University.

During a televised interview, minister Shahini clarified the request referred to President of the Republic, Ilir Meta.

“Under the law, if the minister finds any violations committed by the rector, the minister can propose his dismissal. Nothing is against law in our request. Back in 2018 two inspection teams went to Tirana University to check compliance with Higher Education Law and pinpointed a number of shortcomings. Senate and Board have implemented the recommendations right away, whereas the rector refused to do such a thing,” Shahini said.

According to minister of education, the rector of TU has overreached the authority hampering several processes, which have been detailed in the request to President Meta.

“Law on Higher Education shares the responsibilities between the administrators and academic staff of the university. The rector has overreached his authority holding the processes back.”
