Kumbaro: Psychologists to support children and families affected by violence

TIRANA, Oct 20 /ATA/ Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro and Prime Minister Edi Rama met with the principals of Tirana’s high schools this morning at the Ministry of Education.

Minister Kumbaro expressed her gratitude to all school principals, describing them as pillars of trust in communication with parents.

“I would like to express my gratitude to each and every one of you, as you have been the main source of reassurance and a pillar of trust in communication with parents. In high schools, where there was greater scope for adolescents to be exploited and misused, attendance was significantly higher compared with Friday, when absences increased due to parents’ fear and panic about sending their children to school under highly unusual circumstances.”

Kumbaro emphasized that psychological support for students is particularly important at this time, as they have been exposed to scenes they should not have to experience during their teenage years. She assured that the entire curriculum would be completed and announced that a team of psychologists had been established to support students.

“We have established a team of psychologists who will be available to families, parents, and children from families who have been involved in the violent protests in one way or another. These may be teenagers who have been taken to the police station or who have found themselves involved in circumstances that are highly unusual for their age. It is our duty to provide them with all the psychological counselling they need to ensure that these traumas do not become part of their life stories.”

Minister Kumbaro also highlighted the strengthened communication with security officers over the past few days./sm/
