TIRANA, April 17 /ATA/ – Establishment of joint border points Albania Kosovo will result in facilitation of border crossing for vehicles and individuals.
Parliamentary Committee for External Policy chaired by Mimi Kodheli reviewed and approved on Wednesday’s session the draft law on ratification of agreement between Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the govt. of Kosovo Republic on establishment of joint border crossing points and conduct of joint border control activities.
Also, in attendance of the presentation of the bill was Deputy Minister, Rovena Voda.
Voda said before the committee that the passage of this draft law will benefit both countries, Albania and Kosovo. This agreement has been first applied in Muriqan border crossing point with Montenegro.
Conducting joint controls, according to Deputy Minister, will ease movement of vehicles and individuals through border crossing points. Only in the first 9 months of 2019, more than 4.5 million individuals and more than 1.7 million vehicles have been processed at Morina border point.
Voda spelled out the objective to make it applicable in other border crossing points with Kosovo. She also asserted the readiness of Albania to replicate this model in border crossing points with the eastern neighbor, North Macedonia, while reporting to committee the technicalities impeding its application in border points with Greece despite the will of both parties.
